Pyromaniacs

Photobucket

Lucky for us, the house we rented on vacation had a fire pit. Instead of buying wood the man and his brother decided to chop some. That was quite entertaining; watching them trying to out-do each other as lumberjacks.

Once there was enough chopped wood, it was time to build the fire. The men did an excellent job building one.

Once the fire was at a suitable heat and flame height, it was time to get out the s'mores stuff.

smoresb

Last year I needed help holding the marshmallow over the flames and this year was no different; I still required assistance. My lady helped me roast the marshmallow to the perfection; slightly golden brown, not burnt.

The woman had to help me out eating them; she held them for me, otherwise, my feathers would have gotten sticky, which would not have been a good situation for anyone.

After our bellies were full of s’mores, it was time to kick back with my lady and enjoy the fire.

Of course, the man had to get up and poke the fire; in fact, all the men took their turn poking around in it.

It made me wish the man and I had a fire pit at home. Hopefully, someday we will.

Like a Good Neighbor

Photobucket

One winery my lady friend wanted to visit was an organic, hard cider place (she likes hard ciders) The place is called Good Neighbor Winery The sign is hard to spot and the driveway is long, but you end up at this charming barn. Look at this cool birdhouse, it has a fishing lure as a roosting post.

The interior reminded me of some kind of rustic hunting lodge...

And lavender, oh the lavender! They had a lot of it for sale in bunches as well as using it to make lavender chocolate chip cookies.

Ok, now for the ciders. Just look at the excited look of anticipation on my lovely lady's face:

The bartender (who was also the brewmaster) was extremely passionate about his craft. He loved his job and his ciders. And they were pretty good. The best ones, in my opinion, were the peach and the icy hard apple.

The man decided to have a beer instead. The winery features two locally crafted beers that change frequently.

Overall, we had a very pleasant experience. I would definitely return again. Thanks, Good Neighbor Bartender/Brewmaster, for you hospitality!

To Market, To Market

freshfish

Of course we had to go check out the Farmer’s Market again while on vacation. There was a special surprise for me. Fresh fish!

Photobucket

That’s right, there was a fish monger.

Photobucket

Obviously, I was immediately drawn to his booth to check out the fish.

The man was even kind enough to let us hold a fish. My lady friend had to help me out a little holding it.

He was so nice to us, I have to give him a shout out:

Eventually, I was torn away from the fish to check out the other vendors. I had to sit up high so I could see everything.

I remember these hats from last year.

Photobucket

There was lots of appealing produce, as you would expect from a farmer's market.

Photobucket

I helped pick out some corn.

Photobucket

We were hoping the jeweler who made the petosky pendants would be there. My lady friend lost her’s recently on the subway and is in need of a replacement. But, alas, the same jeweler maker wasn’t there this year. The closest we came were some polished petoskys.

Moving along, these interesting pieces caught my eye:

The pegs of the coat rack and shelves are made from shotgun shells. I thought that was such an interesting idea.

It seemed like this year there weren't as many vendors so we weren't there for long. As we were leaving, this license plate grabbed my attention, for obvious reasons.

Wind in My Feathers

Photobucket

While out and about on vacation we made a stop at the local coffee house. Everyone went in to get coffee except me. I spotted this beauty in the parking lot and had to check it out.

Photobucket

I love Vespas. I would like one of my own, but the man said penguins aren’t allowed to drive them. They can ride on them, just not drive them.

As I was admiring this sweet ride, the owner of the vespa came out of the coffee shop. His name was Doug and he was a very pleasant and jovial fellow. He agreed to pose for a picture with me on his Vespa.

Photobucket

We chatted with Doug for awhile and he gave us some good tourist tips. He is friends with the owner of the coffee shop, so I want to give them a shout out. If you’re looking for a good cup of coffee or cappuccino in Glen Arbor, check out Leelanlau Coffee Roasting. Just follow your nose, you can’t miss the yummy smell of roasted coffee beans.

Then he mounted his vespa and rode away from us.

Bye, Doug! Hope to see you next summer

Ready for Relaxation and Fun

robe3

This weekend the man, woman, and myself will be boarding a plane headed up north. Next week we will be on vacation. I'm excited to be reunited with my lady.

Of course I needed some new threads to sport while out and about town. I made a (long) wish list of outfits from Build-a-Bear. Then the woman went over it, narrowing it down, and finally, the man had the final say. I got 3 new outfits.

They just arrived in the mail this weekend:

As soon as it came I ripped it open to look over my picks:

There was a luxurious robe that I'm sporting in the first picture in the post:

It's so soft and comfortable, I ended up wearing it most of the weekend.

I also wanted a jersey tshirt with colored sleeves. The man has some and I like them, so I wanted to be handsome like him in a jersey shirt of my own:

I pull it off effortlessly, as you can see below:

The last outfit is my favorite. Since then woman often requires my help in the kitchen preparing food, I decided I should look professional while in the kitchen. Hence this complete chef's outfit:

All that's missing is an apron

The hat's a little big, but I'll still wear it. Nobody wants to find feathers in their food.

Don't worry, I'll be blogging about my vacation. Hopefully, it will be a bit quicker than last year.

Vacation Countdown

vacayfund

Well, it's almost time for Mr.Penguin's summer vacation. It's about a month away. I happened to look into my vacation fund bank, and noticed it's pretty low. I was hoping to have an ipad so I could stay in touch with my fans. But it looks like I'm not going to have enough money for one by August. Look like my perchant for cocktails has taken it's toll on my savings fund. Guess I need to go on a buying freeze from now until August.

Happy Birthday, America!

patriot2

Hope you are all enjoying your fourth of July. Mr.Penguin spent his weekend relaxing, just what he needed.

And today I was able to wear red, white, and blue to show my patriotism.

patriot3

And, of course, I'm partaking in some "light" boozing.

patriot5

Now, please excuse me while I go lay down.

Happy Fourth of July!
