Happy Birthday, America!

patriot2

Hope you are all enjoying your fourth of July. Mr.Penguin spent his weekend relaxing, just what he needed.

And today I was able to wear red, white, and blue to show my patriotism.

And, of course, I'm partaking in some "light" boozing.

Now, please excuse me while I go lay down.

Happy Fourth of July!

Easter 2011

posing

Finally, we’re getting around to posting about my Easter; took the woman long enough to do so.

I had a great Easter.

I went on fun Easter egg hunt:

After finding all the eggs I posed for pictures. Little did I know someone else wanted in the shot:

I had to explain to her that this was a penguin only shot, and she moved away to sit and watch the photo shoot, being sure to stay out-of-frame, so we could get our shot.

After the egg hunt I made some new friends:

...and ate tons of candy:

I also was reunited with my special lady. Overall, I had a great Easter.

P.O.P (Pissed Off Penguin)

Photobucket

Look at this picture, it's from Easter which almost 2 weeks ago. Wouldn't you like to know how I spent my Easter, hear about my reunion with my lady, all the candy I got? I know my fans are begging, pleading, yearning for a new post from me. It's just I can't get the woman to help me out. She has more "important" things to do. Please, what could be more important than getting my blog posts up in a timely manner? I really need a new assistant.

But never fear, my friends and fans, I'm going to keep on the woman until she finally gets my post up.

Until then, please accept my deepest apologies for the delay of my Easter post. I will make it worth the wait.

Happy St. Paddy's Day

Photobucket

This morning the man and woman were surprised to wake up and find a little leprechaun, instead of a penguin, in their bed.

At first he seemed a little surly...

...but it turned out all he needed was a stiff Irish drink.

After that he was very well behaved.

How I Spent My Valentine's Day

feb.jpg

Mr.Penguin spent a nice, quiet Valentine's Day night in with the man and the woman. The woman prepared a modest dinner for us. It was quite tasty.

After eating, it was time for dessert. We had many tasty delights from which to choose as we relaxed the rest of the evening.

Overall, it was a pretty good day. Mr.Penguin hopes all his friends and fans enjoyed themselves as well.

Valentine's Day Delights

Photobucket

This weekend I helped the woman plan and prepare our Valentine’s Day treats. It included lots of chocolate. Soon, the woman must go on a low oxalate diet which means no more chocolate for her. This is not her choice but rather the recommendation of her nephrologist (kidney doctor). So she’s determined to get her fill of chocolate before this new diet starts, probably sometime this week.

First on the list were chocolate peanut butter truffles (peanut butter is also a no-no on the low oxalate diet). I got to help cut them out into hearts and roses then dip them in chocolate. We asked the man to come join us, but for some reason, he wasn’t very in to making them, but he sure is into eating them.

These were really easy to make just melt the chocolate and peanut butter with sweetened condensed milk, shape and let chill before dipping.

As you can see, we ended up with a lot of truffles.

In my opinion, for our first attempt at truffles, I think we did a swell job.

lookin' good

Next on the list; chocolate covered strawberries, a classic Valentine’s Day staple. We wanted to be a bit creative with our strawberry decorating, so we searched the internet for inspiration. We decided to try tuxedo strawberries. They looked relatively simple, definitely something we could handle. Umm, not so much. They were way harder to make. I'm not sure if it's because of us or the strawberries. The leaves kept falling off as we dipped them. We tried another approach; using a plastic prong to dip them. But the berries kept falling off the prongs. Still, in the end we managed to salvage some to look acceptable.

better luck next time

Of course, there are still the cake balls we made a week or so ago (to send to my lady) and froze some extra. So we’ll pull those out tomorrow to thaw.

These are just some little nibblers for tomorrow. The woman has intentions of making some kind of dessert for after our dinner. Whether or not it includes chocolate remains to be seen; she’s being pretty secretive about it so it will be a surprise.

The man insists the woman is doing too much, but, deep down, I know he enjoys all the special treats the woman makes him. He may be able to fool the woman, but he can’t fool the penguin.

Treats For My Sweet

Happy February, friends. This past weekend the man and woman got a package ready for my special lady. We’re sending her our digital tv converter so that she can watch tv while being snowed in during this record breaking snowfall year. Once I heard a package was being sent out, I had to throw in a few things of my own; after all, she is my lady.

I included an assortment of snacks (great night food), some valentine’s day treats, as well as a card, made by yours truly. I even lent her a few dvds to watch when nothing good is on tv.

Everything fit perfectly in the box, then all I had to do was tape it up and address it.

I’m a bit concerned that it’s delivery might be delayed due to inclement weather. I hope this post doesn’t ruin the surprise; it's supposed to arrive today.

Decorating Cookies

While away for Christmas I had the chance to decorate sugar cookies. It was nice because all the cookies were already cut out, baked, and cooled. They only needed to be iced and decorated. I was happy to join in on the fun.

There were snowmen,

snowflakes,

gingerbread men,

and most importantly, penguins.

It was a lot of fun and they tasted yummy, too.

A Happy Holiday

Today, being Christmas and all, I thought I’d talk about the indoor Christmas tree here up north. It is enormous, it dwarfs our puny little christmas tree down south. There are lots of fun ornaments on this tree, too. Much more interesting than the red and green balls we have on our tree. Here are a few of my favorites.

these fun bubble lights were all over the tree

and of course, this guy:

he's definitely my favorite.

And the presents, oh the presents! There were so many presents. I was happy to see that addressed to me. Woohoo.

I wondered what it could be.

Notice the tear in the corner? That’s where I stealthily tried to pull back the paper take a peek, but the woman was keeping a sharp eye on me and put a quick stop to it. She knows me too well; she knew I’d try to take a peek and she was ready.

My present turned out to be mini shortbread cookies, the perfect size for a little penguin such as me. I'm a generous penguin and I plan to share them with everyone.

I also wanted to point out my new Christmas sweater vest. Not many can pull off a sweater vest, but, being the fancy penguin that I am, I carry it off flawlessly.

pulling--it--off

A big winter storm is moving in tonight and continuing through tomorrow. Mr. Penguin is ready. We've got food, water, and most importantly, an SUV, so we're ready for anything Mother Nature throws our way.

let it snow!
