First Day of Spring
I just wanted to remind my friends, family, and fans that today is the first day of spring. Mr. Penguin is hoping his garden fares much better this year with bigger, more abundant produce. I have planted some seeds already, much earlier than I did last year. My goal this year is to get my cilantro to grow.
I still may plant some more things, my garden is still being planned out.
I hope you all enjoy a beautiful, warm, sunny day like we are expecting here down south. Today I plan on kickin' back with the man, watching some basketball games; there are supposed to be some good match ups. The man and I will, of course, be cheering on the Buckeyes. As for the woman, she will hopefully be tending to my garden.

Grandma's Garden
Mr. Penguin had the opportunity this past weekend to see what a real garden looks like. It was eye opening. The man and woman told me about this lush, verdant garden and I decided I must see it for myself. I could view it from the window....
....but decided it required closer examination. So I headed outside to get a closer look.
Oh, the variety! So many different types of vegetables and herbs; much more than Mr. Penguin has in his humble pot garden.
I was also very impressed by the size of the plants. They were so tall and full; it was like a neat, orderly jungle.
I gave the garden a thorough inspection and took a lot of notes for future reference. Someday, I hope to have a similar luxuriant garden. But for now I’m content with my modest little garden which, luckily, doesn’t require much work.
Speaking of my garden, on wednesday the woman bought me a lettuce planter with three kinds of lettuce. We planted them that afternoon and today they have already sprouted!
I had trouble getting a good photo of my sprouts. It is so humid here the camera lens fogs up as soon as I get outside. I have to wipe the lens, then try to get a good shot before the lens gets cloudy again up. *Puff*

An Update
I was outside the other day repotting a bell pepper seedling, and look who showed up--my good buddy Scooter.
I haven’t seen him in awhile, so I had to show him how well my plants are faring.
He was happy for me. He promised to look out for my plants while I’m gone this weekend.
Yes, that’s right, Mr. Penguin gets to go on a trip this weekend and I’m very excited about it. Though I’m not sure what I’m supposed to use to pack my things in since I don’t have a suitcase. The man is very concerned for me. I think it’s because he knows he’ll have to share his suitcase with me; we both know there will be no room for my things in the woman’s bulging suitcase.

Beautiful Bell Peppers
I can barely contain my excitement. While watering my plants this evening, I noticed my bell peppers are really taking off. I have 4 distinctly green, beautiful bell peppers--
three on one plant:

It won’t be long until they are ready to eat. I looked around for Scooter, so I could share my happy news with him, but I couldn’t find him. He must be off doing snail things. I know once I show him the peppers, he will be just as pleased as I am.
I can’t stop dancing around. The man says I need to settle down, since it’s night time, but I just can’t help myself; Mr. Penguin is just so proud of his gardening abilities. I decided to write a blog post since I’m bursting with the news; maybe sharing the news with help calm me down.

Scooter
The woman has been slow about repotting my plants; she hasn’t been feeling well lately, so I’ve had to put on my nursing uniform to take care of her, making sure she gets enough rest. To reward my excellent care taker skills, she came home recently with a present for me--new pots! She felt bad that my herbs are dying, and thought actual pots (instead of cans) might help.
Well, this week I finally got her outside to help me replant some seedlings. The basil is doing really well, so we replanted some of the stalks so they have more room to grow. When we pulled out the bag of potting soil, I noticed a huge snail. We became fast friends and, after much deliberation, I decided to name him Scooter. I asked him to look out for my plants and help protect them from pests to which he eagerly agreed. It’s nice to know that I have someone outside all the time, looking out for my plants.

We also checked on the tomatoes, which as you can see are growing nicely.

It has been so humid here, the man thinks I can get away with watering my plants every other day. Good, because it is too hot for a little penguin outside. I like to stay indoors where it's nice and cool.

Rainy Days
I'm so glad I had a weekend full of sunshine and gorgeous weather because as soon as we got home it has been nothing but overcast, gloomy skies and rain. We really needed the rain and it was nice to have a couple days off from watering my garden. The man says that this rain will really boost the growth rate of my plants. I sure hope that is the case. This rain does makes for great napping weather and, needless to say, Mr. Penguin has been very lazy since returning home. He's still working on the post from the rest of his beach trip and will be posting it later this week.
